Quartz

Granite, Marble, Quartz and Other Stone Applications Outside of the Kitchen and Bath

January 18, 2018 by Stone World TN

Everyone loves a beautiful granite countertop that is set in the kitchen or bathroom. Those are the two rooms most associated with stone because they are the two rooms that almost always have countertops of some kind. However, did you know that granite, marble and quartz can be used just as effectively in other areas of the home? When you open your mind to the possibilities, you will soon see that there is a place for stone surfaces in many spots that you may not expect. Here are some examples to consider.

StoneWorld WetBar
The Wet Bar

If you are going to include a wet bar in the design of your home, or if you already have one that is in need of renovation, using stone is a natural choice. Ideally, you will be able to carry the same type of stone through to the wet bar that you have already used in the kitchen. Using a stone counter on the wet bar in your living room or den will give the space a finished, high-end look. Our specialized stone consultants can help when deciding on weather to use granite, marble, or quartz for your wet bar countertops.

StoneWorld Custom Table
A Custom Table

When you need to add a new table to your home, consider using a piece of stone as the top of the table. This might be a unique idea, but it can look absolutely beautiful in the right setting. When you are able to pick out a piece of stone that fits in nicely with the rest of your décor, you can have that slab turned into a table with very little trouble. The resulting table will be heavy, sturdy, and a conversation piece for years to come.

StoneWorld Fireplace
Around a Fireplace

It is always a nice touch to add a fireplace to a living room or even a bedroom, but it can be tough to find a material to use as a finish around the edges of the fireplace installation. As you struggle with this conundrum, be sure to consider some form of natural stone for the job. The stone will serve as a nice contrast to the fire in many cases, and natural stone obviously holds up very nicely against the heat. Brick is a classic material to use around a fireplace, but you just might fall in love with the look that is possible when you opt for stone.

StoneWorld Outdoor Kitchen
An Outdoor Kitchen

Okay, so this is still a kitchen, but it isn’t the kitchen inside your home. If you are going to have an outdoor kitchen on your property, a stone counter – such as granite – is a great pick. Stone is naturally inclined to fight off the elements, and it looks just as beautiful outdoors as it does inside. It can be tough to build an outdoor kitchen that is going to stand the test of time, but a granite counter is one piece of the puzzle that should be a no-brainer.

Has Quartz Been Overlooked in the Countertop Wars?

April 20, 2016 by Stone World TN

Are you overlooking QUARTZ? We've got your countertops covered!
Are you overlooking QUARTZ? We’ve got your countertops covered!

Marble and granite are long-standing staples in the kitchen countertop world. Each is incredibly beautiful, and their cost is often offset by the resale value that they add to a house. Most homeowners don’t need any convincing when it comes to installing a marble or granite countertop – in fact, the only debate is often over which one of these two wonderful options to pick.

However, those are not the only two stones in the game. Quartz is a material that has gained in popularity in recent years, and for many good reasons. Countertops made from quartz offer wonderful durability, they are available in an incredible number of colors, and there is very little maintenance involved in keeping them in tip-top condition. If you are looking for a drawback to quartz, you are going to have to look for a while, because there isn’t much bad to say about this option.

Color Matching is Easy

If you have ever shopped for a natural stone counter, you know how difficult it can be to find exactly the shade you are looking for to match the rest of your kitchen. Mother Nature doesn’t take orders, so granite counters come in whatever shades the earth decided to create. On the other hand, quartz counters are engineered using mostly natural stone along with a resin which can be tinted to nearly any hue. When you visit a showroom to check out quartz counters, you will quickly notice just how easy it would be to select a look that matches up nicely with your needs.

Keep It Clean

One of the great benefits of using quartz specifically for a kitchen counter is its non-porous composition. You don’t need to worry about bacteria working its way into the counter, so they are more sanitary for a kitchen counter option than many of the other options you could pick from. If you are someone who likes to keep a spotless kitchen and you like to know that the surfaces are clean and germ-free, quartz will be your friend.

Long-Lasting Performance

Once installed, you can expect a long and useful life from your quartz counter. In fact, there is a great chance that the quartz counter will still be in place long after you have moved on from the home. As a testament to the durability of this product, many manufacturers of quartz countertops stand behind them with a warranty, which is not usually the case with other stones. This is a counter that can take what day-to-day life has to throw at it with relative ease.

At Stone World, we feel that it is about time that quartz got the attention that it deserves. Of course, we also love marble and granite countertops, so you should weigh all of the options before you settle on one for your home. There is a lot to be said about the advantages of quartz, and the list of drawbacks is rather short to say the least.  Even if you walk into the showroom with your mind focused on marble or granite, don’t be surprised if you walk out having placed an order for a beautiful quartz product. Call our office at 615.350.7000 to schedule a visit to our showroom located at 6150 Cockrill Bend Circle, Nashville, Tennessee 37209. We look forward to seeing you!!!

We’ll look at the five main points why quartz countertops should be more popular amongst homeowners in Nashville.

1. Quartz is a non-porous material

Quartz countertops will not absorb liquids, stains, germs, or any bacteria. These things can not penetrate into quartz countertops like they do with many other countertop building material choices.

2. Quartz countertops have no ongoing maintenance issues

Maintenance on quartz countertops approaches zero due to the fact that they are non-porous. Busy home in Nashville love this as quartz countertops allow them to get on with their lives and not have to stop and seal their countertops regularly.

3. Quartz countertops have a beauty that lasts

Quartz countertops have two main finishes to choose from: polished and honed. Polished is a high shined looking finish, honed is a matte or flat finish. Both of these beautiful finishes will last for years due to the strength and durability of granite.

4. Quartz countertops have no health concerns

Quartz countertops are almost always given NSF certification. This makes them safe for all food and liquids. This is again due to how it is non-porous – pathogens and germs can’t work there way into quartz countertops!

Caring for Quartz Bathroom Countertops

Caring for Quartz Bathroom Countertops
Caring for Quartz Bathroom Countertops

Quartz bathroom countertops are famous in the Franklin, Tennessee area for being nearly indestructible. They do, however, have their limits and a few care tips that will help them last their longest.

Read this article to learn more about caring for your quartz bathroom countertops.

Cleaning your quartz bathroom countertops

Cleaning up quartz bathroom countertops is simple thanks to their non-porous nature. You don’t need to dump a bunch of chemicals on them to get them clean. In fact, all you really need to clean a quartz bathroom countertop is a soft cloth or sponge, mild soap in warm water, and a dry cloth for drying it off. This will handle 99% of your quartz bathroom countertop cleaning needs.

For more stubborn messes, start with a putty knife and scrape carefully at any residue. Then use a mild household cleaner. 409 and Fantastik are two options that are readily available in the Franklin, Tennessee area. Soak the dirty area for as long as ten minutes in these solutions and then clean them away with lots of water and a dry cloth. A Scotch Brite pad that doesn’t scratch can be used to wipe it away at first to really get at the mess.

Cleaning products to not use on your quartz bathroom countertops

While quartz bathroom countertops are tough, it still isn’t a good idea to use harsh cleaners on them. Yes, they can stand it every now and then, but time and repetition can ruin anything.

Avoid using any high alkaline, or acidic cleaner on your quartz bathroom countertops. Examples of this that are found in the Franklin, Tennessee area often are Comet, Soft Scrub, and SOS. All are terrible choices for cleaning your quartz bathroom countertops.

Paint strippers, silver cleaners, sealers, and furniture stippers are all things to keep off your quartz bathroom countertops as well.

Installing quartz bathroom countertops in your home

If you read the above points and thought that quartz bathroom countertops weren’t strong or durable enough for your home, think again. The advice above is given as a precautionary step, they can handle anything at least once or twice. Time and repetition can ruin any material so avoid using these on your quartz bathroom countertops and they will last longer than the rest of your home!

Call up the Stone World team today to start your bathroom design, and get the long lasting quartz bathroom countertops that will add value to your home.

5 Reasons to Choose Quartz Countertops

5 Reasons to Choose Quartz Countertops
5 Reasons to Choose Quartz Countertops

It wasn’t too long ago that granite and marble were the only two stone countertops that Nashville area homeowners wanted used in their home remodels. That trend is slowly starting to turn towards quartz countertops, and for a few good reasons – five of them!

Let’s look at why more homeowners in Nashville are moving towards quartz countertops so that you can understand the trend, and possibly bring it into your design.

Five reasons to choose quartz countertops

1. Low maintenance

Quartz countertops do not need to be sealed, will not stain, and can have any number of cleaning products used on it. Quartz is a non-porous material that is manufactured, and it is made to act exactly this way. You’ll save time and money as you don’t have to buy and use sealer over and over like you do with granite and marble.

2. How durable quartz countertops are

If you thought your granite was durable, wait until you try quartz countertops! Not only will it not stain, as mentioned above, but it is scratch resistant – making it perfect for cutting vegetables on. If you cut things in your kitchen, which I’m willing to bet everyone in Nashville does, quartz can be the best choice for durability alone.

3. Quartz countertops have a more uniform look

Quartz is made to look a certain way, meaning that the homeowner in Nashville who chooses it can plan for paint and other color choices well in advance. This can save time during the design process as you don’t have to wait for your slab to be delivered to know for certain how it will look.

4. Quartz countertops are now sexy

When quartz countertops were first introduced they were bland. Boring. Lackluster. No one in Nashville saw them and went “Wow! That looks interesting enough to install in my home!” You can now get the same level of excitement from quartz countertops with great patterns and marbling as you can with other stones.

5. The cost of quartz countertops is lower than you think

The average cost of new quartz countertops is roughly the same as mid-level granite. This can differ depending on the design and current market fluctuations, but you’re getting all of the above points for roughly the same price as any other material you could choose.

Installing quartz countertops in your home

If you’re ready to install quartz countertops in your home, call the design team at Stone World today. If you have a few more questions you’re still welcome to call and ask so that you can make the right decision.
